She’s addicted to the portal and all the memes, sayings, and stories associated with it. The Autobiography Of Calvin Coolidge
by Calvin Coolidge edited by Amity Shlaes & Matthew D
Prior to reading this book, all I knew about Calvin Coolidge, our 30th president (1923-1929), was that he was from Northampton, MA and he believed in small government (government should not intrude into the lives of its citizens and tax dollars should be spent prudently). At the time he was considered to have progressive opinions about women's suffrage, U.S. senators should be elected not appointed, and reducing the workweek from 54 hrs to 48 hrs for women and children. He served as vice president to Warren Harding. After the unexpected death of President Harding, Mr. Coolidge completed the remainder of Harding's term. He was elected president in 1924, chose not to run for a second term.
The Autobiography Of Calvin Coolidge edited by Amity Shlaes and Matthew Denhart
by Calvin Coolidge
I decided to listen to this audio book because I did not know much about Calvin Coolidge, the 30th president of the U.S. (1923-29), was a man of high moral and ethical standards. He was Warren Harding's vice president. After the unexpected death of President Warren Harding, Mr. Coolidge completed the remainder of Harding's term and was elected president. Mr. Coolidge thought the local and federal governments should be fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars. At that time he was considered to be progressive in some of his opinions. During the 1920s he was in favor of women's suffrage, reducing the workweek from 54 hrs to 48 for women and children and thought that U.S. senators should be elected not appointed. Integrity mattered to him. Did he not know of the financial shenanigans going on in the 1920s which caused the 1929 stock market crash occurred shortly after he left the presidency? Warren Harding was involved in the Teapot Dome Scandal (reading for another time). For someone who thought it was important to spend tax dollars prudently, it didn't make sense to me that he did not try to stop the irresponsible financial activity during his time in office.

Hughley is a survival guide for black and brown people in America to survive in their own country—from the dirty air and water in many minority communities to subpar healthcare to underfunded schools to attempts at taking away their right to vote to so many other obstacles that studies have proven time and again harm minorities. Highly recommend.
